In "Sonar Songs" the spectator is watching calm water that does not reveal its scale. Only when a foot appears on the surface it becomes clear, that it is not a whale-watching tour. "Sonar Songs" questions the fascination of these tours, where you never actually know if and what animal you will see. Of course, people get their money back if the tour is unsuccessful, but what exactly is it, that makes such a tour a success? Could the top of a fin be enough?

In "Sonar Songs" schaut der Zuschauer auf ruhiges Wasser, das seine Dimensionen nicht preisgibt. Erst als ein Fuß an der Oberfläche auftaucht, wird klar, dass es sich nicht um eine Whale-Watching-Tour handelt. "Sonar Songs" hinterfragt die Faszination dieser Touren, bei denen man nie wirklich weiß, ob und welches Tier man zu Gesicht bekommt. Natürlich bekommen die Leute ihr Geld zurück, wenn die Tour erfolglos ist, aber was genau macht eine solche Tour zu einem Erfolg? Könnte die Spitze einer Flosse ausreichen?
